Every year, many students try to get into the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, also known as FUTO. It is one of the best technology universities in Nigeria. Because of this, it is very competitive. If you want to study at FUTO, you need to understand what a cut-off mark is and how it affects your admission.
In this article, you will learn what the FUTO cut-off mark is, how it is set, and what the cut-off marks are for each course. This will help you know if you qualify for admission and what you should do next.
What is a Cut-Off Mark?
A cut-off mark is the minimum score you must get in your JAMB exam to apply for admission into a university or a particular course. Every year, JAMB sets a general minimum score for admission, but each university is allowed to decide its own cut-off mark based on what they need. Also, different departments or courses may have different marks.
FUTO General Cut-Off Mark 2025/2026
For the 2025/2026 academic session, the general JAMB cut-off mark for FUTO is 150. This means that if you scored 150 or above in your JAMB exam, you can apply for admission into FUTO. However, this does not guarantee admission. You must also meet the departmental cut-off for your chosen course.

Admission Requirements for FUTO
There are two main ways to gain admission into FUTO: through UTME and Direct Entry.
For UTME Candidates
- You must have at least five credits in SSCE or GCE O’Level. These credits must be obtained in no more than two sittings.
- You must choose FUTO as your first choice during JAMB registration.
- You must score at least 150 in your JAMB UTME.
- You must be at least 16 years old by the time of admission.
- You must have the correct subject combination for your chosen course.
For Direct Entry Candidates
- You must have five O’Level credits in relevant subjects.
- You must also have A-Level results, IJMB, or ND/NCE with good grades.
- The subjects must be related to your course of interest.
Why Cut-Off Marks Matter
Cut-off marks are used by universities to control the number of students who can apply. They also help you understand if you have a good chance of getting in. If your score meets the cut-off, you can go ahead and apply for the Post-UTME.
What to Do If You Don’t Meet the Cut-Off
If your score is below 150, you will not be allowed to apply for FUTO this year. But you can still do the following:
- Apply to another university or polytechnic with a lower cut-off mark.
- Wait and reapply next year with a better score.
- Consider part-time programs or diploma courses and later apply through Direct Entry.
Conclusion
Getting into FUTO is competitive, but it is possible if you plan well. The first step is knowing the cut-off mark for your course and making sure you meet it. Prepare well for your exams, follow the application process, and always choose the right subject combination.
If you scored 150 or more in JAMB, and your course does not have a higher cut-off, you can apply for FUTO’s Post-UTME. Keep checking official updates so you don’t miss any important dates.
